Experiencing SEATED Walking Meditation

Let's get on-the-MUV today! It's time to try walking meditation and experience all the wonderful benefits we discussed in our last blog. If you're a beginner or need a refresher, be sure to check it out — It's loaded with information to get you started. Walking while seated sounds like it would be impossible, but if you're here you've probably heard of the miniTREAD®. I will be using my miniTREAD — the evolution of the treadmill to walk while seated — to complete todays self-care session.

Before we get started, I want to note that this is completely different than how I typically miniTREAD. Usually, I use it while checking my emails or scrolling through social media, but today I decided to give myself some serenity in the form of walking meditation... while seated!

I am hoping to discover, through this experience, if I enjoy walking meditation more than traditional meditation. I love the benefits of traditional meditation, but I can get even more by using my miniTREAD.

Going into this I am a little nervous about maintaining my mindfulness, especially because I have the attention span of a 2-year-old. However, I think following this guided meditation will help me stay on track.

Seated Walk Meditation

Without further ado, here is my experience with sitting walking meditation!

During my seated walk, I felt a lot of emotions that came in waves. The first wave of emotion was pure chaos. In the beginning, I hit the ground running — I was struggling getting adjusted, moved my miniTREAD to a better position, background noise happening, and trying to start the video.... just pure chaos.

The second wave of emotion I felt was calmness kicking the anxiety I was feeling out the window. The guided video did such an amazing job at making me look for the good in my life and led me to really think about what I can do for myself that day. Doing this helped me stay grounded in my mindfulness for the duration of the meditation.

The final wave of emotion was shock. I was genuinely mind blown about how good I was feeling in that short amount of time. I was suddenly prepared for my day in only 5 minutes.

Overall, I did achieve my goal. I found an alternative to traditional meditation that I do enjoy. Next time, I want to try walking meditation outside, because I am more of an outdoorsy person. With that being said, the miniTREAD served its purpose in this situation. For those of you that don't have a safe place to walk, need lower impact exercise or want to do this in the comfort of their home, the miniTREAD is a perfect alternative.

Walking meditation was definitely worthwhile! If you are looking to enhance your meditation practice, this is the way to go! Have you tried walking meditation before? If so, please tell us about your experience and any tips or tricks you may have for beginners!
